Magdalene Stewart TCRG ADCRG (nee. McCann) was born in Belfast N. Ireland and started her dancing career at age 10 under the direction of her teacher Vourneen O’Connor. During this time she won many awards and was the first dancer from her school to win at the All Ireland.
The Stewart School of Irish Dance was established in the early 1970’s after Magdalene and her husband Edmund immigrated to Canada from Northern Ireland with their 4 young children. A few short years later Magdalene was hosting her first feis and setting down roots for the regions umbrella dance association Van Eire. With a history of competitive success, one of the most recognized competitions in Western Canada, and four classes in the Greater Vancouver area– Cloverdale, Vancouver, Richmond and Maple Ridge, the school is one of the most established and respected schools of Irish Dance in the Pacific Northwest.
Magdalene approaches each of her students with enthusiasm and belief – both of which are easily seen in all of her students. Numerous dancers have won both medals and titles at World, North American, and Regional Championships. The school is a supportive community of dancers and parents, all of whom share Magdalene’s passion for Irish dance and culture. Whether you want to dance for fun, or compete to be recognized as one of the best in the World – this is the school to dance with.
